Cork City

Cork City, like many beautiful cities across the globe, is built on water. The city centre has grown around an island in the mouth of the River Lee and consequently has many graceful bridges spanning the two channels that embrace it. Like every good city, Cork has its festivals, historic buildings and traditional activities. Guests of the Cork Airport Hotel can be in the city centre enjoying all the activities on offer in just 15 minutes.

Explore Cork City
A great activity whilst visiting Cork is to spend some time at one of the many festivals that take place in the city throughout the year. Of course the biggest and brightest must be the St. Patrick’s Day Parade that runs for three days from March 16th to 18th. With plenty of free family events and food and craft producers on hand at the many stalls this is a great day out for everyone. Or for those who love music the Cork Choral festival is a must. There are also themed festivals for Jazz, film and even a maritime festival – Ocean to City – to enjoy.

Visitors who like shopping shouldn’t miss the chance to browse in the English market, one of the oldest markets in Cork, where typical purchases include artisan foods and vintage clothes. There are also many museums to visit and the Butter Museum will be high on any visitor’s itinerary, charting as it does the rise of the world’s largest butter market in Cork City in the 1700s. Don’t miss the Marina and the Atlantic Pond or the quadrangle at UCC.
