Guinness Cork Jazz festival

The 2018 Guinness Cork Jazz Festival will take place over the October Bank Holiday Weekend, Thursday 25th to Monday 29th October, in Cork City. It boasts an exciting line up of world-class Jazz greats, bringing the Festival back to its roots, as the Jazz haven of Ireland. For four days and nights the city becomes a hive of activity, offering fans a wide variety of jazzy sounds in some of Cork’s well known venues including; The Everyman Theatre, Cork City Hall, Triskel Arts Centre, Cork Opera House and Firkin Crane.
The weekend begins on Thursday Evening with a Jazz parade which will wind its way around the city bringing the Jazz Festival to life for its 41st outing in the rebel city. Throughout the weekend there will be plenty of free entertainment with up to 1000 jazz musicians from over 20 countries preforming in over 70 venues around the city. Fringe events including classes, flash mobs and trails, insure that there is something for everyone, no matter what their music or cultural tastes.
The Guinness Cork Jazz Festival has a stellar lineup which features Grammy award-winning Maria Schneider and her Orchestra, Blind Boys of Alabama, Nnenna Freelon, Laura Mvula, Stanley Clarke, Billy Childs Ensemble, Billy Cobham, Fred Hersch, T.S. Monk, Donny McCaslin, Linley Hamilton, Frank Vignola’s Hot Jazz Trio, Pablo Ziegler Trio, Umbra, David O'Rourke & Paul Dunlea Duo, Ronan Guilfoyle, The Paul Dunlea Sextet, Cormac McCarthy's Sùp Trio, Sachal Vasandani & his Quartet and Mary Hegarty, just to name a few.
This year’s festival will also celebrate the golden era of the social dancehalls of a century ago with The Swing Jive on Saturday, 27th October at Cork City Hall. Two of Europe’s biggest Jazz dance bands, Meschya Lake & The Dizzy Birds and Gentlemen & Gangsters will be joined by international dancers and members of the Irish Swing Community, to reacquaint jazz festival party people with the One-Step, Two-Step, Waltz, Foxtrot, Peabody, Balboa, Shag, Lindy Hop, Swing and Jive dances.
